TTS goes back to school in Azores

In the beginning of 2014 we implemented our R&D team (TTS Lab) in the beautiful Azores Islands. Being a technology company focused on innovation, we felt that the “Pearl of the Atlantic” gathered the perfect conditions to establish our team and also to recover an old idea: the launch of a Travel Technology University course.

The reaction from the Azorean public was absolutely fantastic! With more than 120 participants registered in less than two weeks, the course already poses as the biggest of its kind in the region.

The opening session took place last Friday, on October 3 in the University of Azores and started with a speech by Pedro Barata, TTS CEO & Founder, presenting key facts on the current state of the Travel Industry, the hot topics on technology and the company vision for 2020. Next, the Regional Secretary for Tourism and Transportation, Vitor Fraga, addressed the importance of Technology in the development of Tourism in the Azores Region.

The second module of the course began on the next day with Travelport being the first company to take the stage. Nelson Almeida, Sales Manager, guided the participants throughout the major milestones of the history of travel: from the early days of the first reservation systems to the modern GDS. His presentation also highlighted the main trends in the industry and how Travelport is inspiring Travel all over the world with its cutting edge technology.

Afterwards, it was time to learn about the Airlines Industry with Portuguese companies TAP and SATA providing two different approaches on the main challenges for the future.

In the following weeks, participants had the opportunity to attend presentations about the Hotel Industry (with City Stays and Bensaude Group) and Digital Marketing (Facebook, TAP, SATA HDG Azores & TTS). The course will then take a turn to a more technical side where students will learn to interact with Travelport Universal API as the main provider of Travel Content.

By sharing our knowledge and providing the opportunity to interact with such international and national players, we hope to contribute to the training of the future Tourism and Technology professionals. For us, this free course is also a small step in giving back to the community of Azores for being so warm and welcoming to our company.
